ROCKAWAY BEACH HISTORIC WALKING TOUR
After three years of volunteers' hard work, we're launching an interactive walking tour guiding guests between photo murals and plaques at our historic buildings. The stories and photos are captivating and will draw guests door-to-door, creating an experience that celebrates our heritage, character, and timeless charm.
Rockaway Beach was the origin of coastal high-life at the turn of the century... Natatorium & Dance Hall, surf, sand & bathing beauties, beach bonfires & glamping. The Main Street boardwalk housed general stores & candy stores, a post office & motels, and a pool hall run by Red Headed Ruby, the local bootlegger.
BUSINESS PLAQUES & MURALS
The committee is facilitating the design and production of these plaques and large-format murals. We're seeking business sponsors, grants, and donations for our grassroots fundraising efforts.
In the works... Rockaway Beach Historical Digital Walking Guide with QR codes, narrated history, and a physical brochure/map.

ABOUT US
The Rockaway Beach Historic Connection & Beautification Cooperative unites its businesses, residents, and guests through a Main Street experience honoring our heritage, character, and timeless charm.
Rockaway Beach Community Education/the nonprofit arm of the Chamber of Commerce, is an Oregon Main Street Connected Community; formed to provide a small town quality of life and to invigorate the Main Street business district.
This grassroots, preservation-based economic development approach has been successful using the time-tested Four Point Approach to downtown revitalization developed by Main Street America:
1) Sustainable Organization 2) Effective Promotion 3) Quality Design 4) Economic Vitality
The original idea for this walking tour stemmed from the experience of a local mother and daughter team during a haunted walking tour in Alexandria in 2010. This inspiration, and paired excitement from local business owner Herman Doty, led to the establishment of the Chamber's annual haunted walking tour of the town, narrated by Scott Fisher.
As a fifth-generation Rockaway Beach family member, Annette Dhein has developed a deep appreciation for our history. She's contributing tourism and project management expertise to our committee.
